Whether there's leftover shrimp in the freezer, or it looks delectable behind the seafood counter case, this shrimp salad recipe is sure to please.

One of the most globally appreciated seafoods, shrimp has large fisheries found all over the world. From Japanese cuisine to Chinese, Indian cuisine to Creole, shrimp plays a vital role. Any chef loves to get their hands on a fresh catch of shrimp to make a classy and satisfying dish.

In the United States most shrimp that is consumed likely comes from the Southern Atlantic or Gulf regions. While there are multitudes of species of shrimp, the most commonly consumed are either Pacific White Shrimp or Giant Tiger Prawns.

Low in calories, low in fat, quick to prepare, shrimp are great for a quick snack or as the star of an amazing dish. Here is a recipe for Shrimp Rolls that will leave the guests clamoring for more. It takes just a few minutes to prepare and can also be prepared ahead of time and stored in the fridge. This recipe makes four sandwiches and can be easily doubled and tripled.

Things You’ll Need for the Shrimp Salad Roll

  • 1 lb. of Shrimp (purchase cooked either frozen or at the seafood counter)
  • Mayonnaise
  • Celery
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Cayenne pepper
  • Lettuce
  • Avocado
  • Hot dog rolls
  • Butter

Assembling the Shrimp Salad Sandwich

  1. Thaw the shrimp if they are frozen. Simply allows them to defrost in the bowl. If not planning to work with them right away, allow them to defrost in the fridge. Be sure to place a paper towel over them to keep bugs out while thawing.
  2. Heat half a stick of butter in the microwave for about 35 seconds or until melted.
  3. Brush the butter onto the inside of each hot dog roll.
  4. Place each hot dog roll face down in a frying pan over low heat. Leave there until the inside of the hot dog bun is golden brown. This will take between three and five minutes.
  5. Cut and remove the tails and any other pieces of shell.
  6. Cut the shrimp in half so that there are two equal sized pieces. This step takes a bit of a guess on the chef’s part. If the shrimp are small and look “bite-sized” there is no need to cut them. However, if they are large, then cutting them into a palatable size is advised.
  7. Place the shrimp into a bowl large enough for mixing.
  8. Chop one stalk of celery into small pieces. Add the celery into the bowl.
  9. Add a few dashes of cayenne pepper and salt and pepper to taste.
  10. Follow with 3 tbsp. of mayonnaise. (If watching weight, use light mayonnaise)
  11. Stir together into the bowl until well mixed.
  12. Place a leaf of lettuce in the grilled hot dog bun.
  13. Scoop the shrimp salad on top of the lettuce.
  14. Slice open an avocado and cut small curls of avocado to place on top of the sandwich.
  15. Add the avocado to the shrimp salad sandwich and serve to the guests!

Add other Veggies as Well

Don’t be afraid to add tomato, cucumber, in season squashes onions and more to this wonderful recipe. Also, if the crowd likes a little tang a spoonful of Dijon mustard can really zest things up.
