Use your bread machine to make a delicious loaf of Bear Bread with Yeast.

Who can resist the smell of fresh baked bread? Thanks to bread machines, warm homemade bread is attainable for everyone.

Most people are familiar with yeastless beer breads that use baking powder to raise the bread. However, it is possible to make excellent beer bread with all the wonderful qualities found in yeast breads.

Beer Bread with Yeast is a reliable and easy recipe for the bread machine. Higher quality beers improve the quality of the taste. It is fun to experiment with different beers for this recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm beer
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 tbsp turbinado* brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 3 tbsp ground flax
  • 2 1/2 tsp dry yeast

Instructions

Place ingredients in the bread machine in the order suggested by the manufacturer of your machine. Operate machine according to manufacturer instructions.

Helpful Hints

  • Bread that is baked in the bread machine often has a tougher crust and a chewier texture than bread baked in the oven. You can bake the dough created by your bread machine in your oven.
  • Set your bread machine to the dough setting and let the machine do the kneading. When the dough has finished rising in the machine, take the dough out, punch it down, add flour if necessary (if it is sticky add just enough flour to prevent sticking and work into the dough), and shape the dough into a loaf. Place dough on a cooking sheet. Let the dough rise again (up to double). Bake in a 350°F oven for 25-35 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.
  • If you prefer soft crusts on your bread, use this tip. Rub butter all over the crust as soon as you remove the bread from the oven—the butter will keep your crust soft.

Suggestions for Beers to Use in Recipe

  • Try different types of beer in this recipe, have fun. If you like fruit, honey, or wheat beers, try them in the bread. Did you buy a microbrew and discovered that you don’t like it? Use it for bread; it will work beautifully.

Impress Your Friends

  • Shape the dough into small loaves. Once they are baked, hollow them out and use them as bread bowls for your favorite soup.
  • Make sandwiches for the big football game using Beer Bread.
