Classic Diner-Style Recipes - Chocolate Malted, Strawberry Shake, Cherry Fizz

For your next diner-style dinner, prepare one or two of these delicious drinks for your guests. These tasty beverages are best enjoyed in the company of friends with comforting food and great conversations.

Chocolate Malted

Ingredients

  • 5 scoops vanilla ice cream
  • 1 ¾ cups cold milk
  • 3 ½ tablespoons malted milk powder
  • ½ cup chocolate syrup
  • Maraschino cherries, to garnish

Preparation

  1. In a blender, combine the ice cream, milk, malted milk powder and chocolate syrup.
  2. Blend just until there are few or no lumps remaining.
  3. Serve immediately in tall glasses, with a straw or long teaspoon in each glass.
  4. Garnish with maraschino cherries.
  5. SERVES 2

Strawberry Shake

Ingredients

  • 2 cups ice cubes
  • 4 cups fresh strawberries, hulled
  • 4 cups strawberry ice cream
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 teaspoons sugar

Preparation

  1. Add ice cubes, strawberries, ice cream, milk and sugar to a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth then pour into glasses.
  3. SERVES 4

Banana Ice Cream Shake

Ingredients

  • 2 scoops vanilla ice cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 banana, peeled and chopped
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preparation

  1. Add ice cream, milk, egg whites, banana and vanilla extract to a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth then pour into glasses.
  3. SERVES 4

Cherry Fizz

Ingredients

  • 2 cups frozen cherry juice concentrate, thawed
  • 2 cups ginger ale

Preparation

  1. Place cherry juice concentrate in a tall pitcher then slowly stir in ginger ale.
  2. Pour into glasses then serve.
  3. SERVES 4

Lime Rickey

Ingredients

  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ¾ cup freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 ¼ cups gin
  • 1 ½ quarts chilled soda water
  • Thin slices of lime

Preparation

  1. In a 1-quart saucepan, mix water and sugar; stir over low heat until sugar dissolves, about 15 minutes. Allow to cool or chill.
  2. In a 3-quart pitcher, stir together lime juice, gin and cooled syrup. Cover and freeze until ready to serve.
  3. To serve, add soda water then pour into ice-filled glasses.
  4. Garnish with lime slices.
  5. MAKES 6 TO 8 SERVINGS

Vanilla Ice Cream Float

Ingredients

  • 1 ¼ cups sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • Vanilla ice cream
  • Club soda

Preparation

  1. Chill 4 tall glasses in freezer until ready to serve drinks.
  2. In a saucepan set over high heat, combine sugar and 1 cup of water; stir until sugar dissolves. Cool then add vanilla extract. Note: This portion of the drinks can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to 1 month.
  3. When ready to serve, pour 3 tablespoons sugar syrup into each glass then top with 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream, then top with club soda.
  4. MAKES 4 SERVINGS

New York City Egg Cream

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of milk
  • Sparkling seltzer water
  • 4 tablespoons U-Bet Chocolate-Flavored Syrup

Preparation

  1. Pour 1 cup of milk into each of two glasses.
  2. Add sparkling seltzer water to glasses until a white head reaches top of glass.
  3. Spoon in 2 tablespoons of chocolate-flavored syrup into each of two glasses then stir to combine.
  4. MAKES 2 SERVINGS
