Chicken nuggets are great for kids, parties, or when served snacks, and they are easy to cook at home in very short time.
Cooking chicken nuggets is similar to frying chicken tenders, except some of the ingredients may be different, and the nuggets require much less preparation time. Following is a simple recipe for chicken nuggets.
Ingredients
1 lbs boneless, skinless chicken tenders
1 cup all-purpose white flour
1/2 cup bread crumbs
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon ground cayenne pepper (optional, used to give the nuggets spicier flavor)
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
2 cups vegetable oil for frying
Cooking Instructions
Take the chicken tenders, and cut them into small blocks. They do not have to be symmetric, as some of them will not be, because the tenders are irregularly shaped.
In a bowl or cup, beat the egg with the milk to get the wet part of the batter.
In a larger bowl, combine the flour, bread crumbs, salt, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper, and stir the ingredients together.
Take the pieces of chicken, and dip them into the egg and milk mix, and stir them around to get a coating of the mixture all over them. Then, with a fork, take the chicken pieces from the egg and milk, and place them in the flour bowl. Turn the pieces over in the dry mix until they are coated in flour.
Take the battered chicken nuggets, and place them in a pot of vegetable oil which has been heated at medium heat. Fry the nuggets for about two minutes. If the nuggets are large, or the oil is shallow in the pot, turn them over to fry both sides if they are not completely enveloped in oil.
Remove the nuggets from the oil when they are golden brown, and allow them to cool on a paper towel, which will collect the excess oil. Then serve.
There are alternate methods of cooking chicken nuggets, some of which do not require frying. Baking nuggets in the oven is one way to cook them that will reduce the amount of fat and calories in them, and this is also relatively easy to do. To bake the chicken nuggets, use only bread crumbs (no flour at all), and about one cup of them. So for step 3, simply combine the bread crumbs, salt, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper, and dip the chicken in that mix after it was dipped in the egg and milk. Then, place the battered nuggets on a cookie sheet, which has been lightly greased with vegetable or olive oil, and bake for 10-15 minutes at 400 degrees. Chicken nuggets are great with barbecue sauce, ketchup, and honey mustard.
