As the arrival of the pending winter chills the northern hemisphere, this low fat, easy recipe is a great dessert idea. Most of the ingredients should be readily available in the majority of pantries so it’s cheap to make. Golden Syrup Steamed Pudding or Golden Syrup Sponge Pudding is an old fashioned favourite for many kids and adults. Served with ice-cream or cream, there is a limited risk for artificial colours, preservatives and flavours which can be harmful to children.

For the adults watching their waste lines, this easy dessert idea contains only 3 tablespoons of butter and only ½ cup of sugar so it is low in fat and sweetened mainly by the natural beauty of golden syrup.

The Golden Syrup Pudding can be cooked in a steamer, in a cake tin or in the microwave. If cooking in a cake tin or in the microwave, though, the syrup is best mixed into the cake mixture.
