This old fashioned fruit dessert is easy to make and the results are scrumptious. For family fun in the kitchen let the children help.

Autumn is apple season and whether the family visits a local farm market to purchase this versatile fruit or makes a day of it apple picking in a nearby orchard, this easy, delicious, apple brownie recipe will reflect the “fruits” of their labor. So gather the kids around the kitchen table and get busy creating a dessert that can be enjoyed all year ‘round.

Ingredients for Homemade Apple Brownies

  • 1 cup butter, melted
  • 4 cups apples, chopped
  • 2 cups sugar – white or 1 cup white sugar and 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground cloves

· Chopped walnuts, (optional)

Instructions for Making Old Fashioned Homemade Apple Brownies

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In small mixing bowl, combine dry ingredients. Set aside.
  3. In large mixing bowl, stir chopped apples with melted butter and sugar.
  4. Beat in eggs.
  5. Mix dry ingredients into apple mixture.
  6. Pour mixture into 9X13 inch pan and bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes.
  7. Let cool before cutting into squares.

This family time together in the kitchen can be both fun and educational. Children will be able to practice their math skills by measuring ingredients. They have the opportunity to brush up on following directions by reading a recipe. And everyone, adults and children alike, will feel a sense of accomplishment when they bite into a warm, tasty brownie.
