Is your family tired of the same old cold deli sandwich? Try these warm, satisfying variations!

Sandwiches don’t have to be the same old boring fare! Spice up your family’s lunch, dinner, or even a sport’s party with these great tasting hot sandwich and side dish ideas! The Italian Toaster is always a favorite, and the onion rolls come out super light and airy when they’ve been oven toasted. Smoked Apple Swiss sandwiches are tart and crisp with just a hint of sweetness, and the Pot Roast and Swiss is a homespun twist to the Philly Beef and Swiss or Cheese Steak sandwich. All three are simple and delicious!

Italian Toasters

Ingredients:

  • Onion rolls
  • Ham
  • Pastrami
  • Salami
  • 1 slice provolone and 1 slice Muenster cheese per sandwich
  • Olive oil
  • Italian seasoning

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 deg F.
  2. Open rolls, sliced side up, on a cookie sheet.
  3. On bottom roll, stack one slice of cheese, the three meats, and the other slice of cheese.
  4. Drizzle olive oil all over the top roll, and sprinkle Italian seasoning over everything.

Bake open-faced in the oven until the cheese melts, then place the tops on the sandwiches and bake for another 10 minutes until the sandwiches are warmed through.

These sandwiches are great with an antipasto on the side. For a complete Italian feel, enjoy with a glass of white wine, and have a scoop or two of gelato for dessert!

Smoked Apple Swiss Sammies

Ingredients:

  • Pumpernickel bread
  • Mesquite smoked turkey breast
  • Swiss cheese
  • Sliced, tart apples (like Granny Smith or McIntosh)
  • Spicy brown mustard
  • Sea salt, brown sugar, and pepper

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven on broiler setting.
  2. Lay pumpernickel bread slices out on a cookie sheet.
  3. Top half of them with turkey breast, Swiss cheese, and apple slices.
  4. Sprinkle a little sea salt, brown sugar, and black pepper over the apples, and place under the broiler just until the sugar melts on the apples.

This is a delicious sandwich and is complemented nicely with kettle chips! If you’re having these as a late night snack on a cool fall evening, try a little hot buttered rum or a warm spiced tea!

Home Style Pot Roast and Swiss Sandwich Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 large beef roast
  • 1 large onion, quartered
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of black pepper
  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 2 large green bell peppers, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Hoagie buns
  • Swiss cheese
  • Horseradish sauce

Directions:

  1. Place beef in a crock pot and cover with water. Cook roast beef, one quartered onion, garlic, salt, and pepper for six to eight hours or until falling apart.
  2. Remove roast from crock pot and shred, then return to crock pot. Simmer this on low for about an hour to let the beef simmer in its juices.
  3. In a large skillet, sauté the remaining onions and peppers in a little bit of olive oil. Serve beef on hoagie buns, topped with Swiss cheese, onions, and peppers.

Roasted potatoes, carrots, celery, and onions make a wonderful side to this non-traditional Philly beef and Swiss sandwich. Give your guests a little serving of horseradish sauce to use on the sandwich and veggies as desired.

These recipes are perfect for the fall weather and are sure to please the hearty appetite!
