Make Cranberry, Orange, Apricot, or Apple and Honey Glaze for Turkey

Once your make a glaze for your turkey you will never make one without it again. Your main holiday dish comes out looking delicious and it glistens with luciousness.

This article will explore other options of Turkey Cookery other than the basic roast turkey explored in Basic Turkey Cookery. Did you know turkeys can be glazed? They can and they are delicious. Recipes in this article are Apricot Glazed Turkey, Orange Glazed Turkey, Cranberry Glazed Turkey and Apple Honey Glazed. Kind of makes you want to cook turkey more often than on Thanksgiving and Christmas. These Glazed varieties make great Christmas dinners. Follow the directions for preparing a turkey in Basic Turkey Cookery with recipes for Roast Turkey with Onions and Roast Turkey with Garlic and Herbs, and then follow the directions below. All the recipes are for unstuffed turkeys. Click on this link for stuffings to prepare outside of the turkey.

Apricot Glazed Turkey

  • Prepared Roast Turkey with Onions or Roast Turkey with Garlic and Herbs (link above)
  • 1 cup apricot nectar
  • 1 cup apricot jam
  • 2 tablespoons peeled ginger root, minced
  • 1 – ½ tablespoon honey

  1. In a bowl combine the nectar, jam, ginger root and honey.
  2. Remove foil and brush half the glaze over turkey during the last hour of cooking.
  3. 20 minutes later brush with rest of glaze and complete cooking. This will give the turkey a nice orangish brown color.
Orange Glazed Turkey

  • Prepare the Roast Turkey with Onions (link above) but instead of using a lemon, use an orange.
  • 1 cup orange marmalade
  • 1 – ½ tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon boiling water

  1. In a bowl combine the marmalade, honey and boiling water.
  2. Remove foil and brush half the glaze over turkey during the last hour of cooking.
  3. 20 minutes later brush with the rest of the glaze and complete cooking. This will give the turkey a shiny brown color.
Cranberry Glazed Turkey

  • Prepare the Roast Turkey with Onions or Roast Turkey with Garlic and herbs (link above)
  • 2 Tablespoons butter
  • 1 – 16 ounce can jellied cranberry sauce (don’t use whole)
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar, packed

  1. Melt the butter in a sauce pan over medium heat.
  2. Add cranberry sauce and brown sugar and stir.
  3. Bring to a boil.
  4. Reduce heat and simmer stirring occasionally for about 10 minutes.
  5. Remove foil from turkey and brush half the glaze on turkey during the last hour of cooking.
  6. 20 minutes later brush with rest of glaze and continue cooking. This will give a mahogany red and shiny glaze to the turkey.
Apple Honey Glaze

  • Prepare the Roast Turkey with Onion or Roast Turkey with Garlic and Herbs (link above)
  • ¼ cup sugar free apple juice
  • 1/3 cup butter melted
  • 1/3 cup honey

  1. Melt the butter in a sauce pan over medium heat. In a bowl combine the apple juice and honey and whisk.
  2. Add melted butter.
  3. Remove foil from turkey and brush half the glaze on turkey during the last hour of cooking. 20 minutes later brush with rest of glaze and continue cooking. This will give a honey brown color to the turkey and make the house smell really good.
So there is more to turkey than just roasting it. Make the holidays special with one of these glazes.
