Combine cream cheese, chicken, celery, spices and crescent rolls for this delicious appetizer. Small food processors make these party food snacks quick and easy to make.

If you’re looking for a perfect party food that tastes like a gourmet finger food, yet is super easy to make, here’s the perfect recipe for you. The savory flavors of this appetizer will make you the hit of any gathering - so be prepared to have plenty of people ask you how you made it. The beautiful thing about this dish is that it’s quick to make because you can use small food processors, like the Magic Bullet food processor, to do the chopping and mixing for you.

Savory Chicken Puffs Ingredients

  • One 8 ounce package of softened cream cheese
  • 1 cup finely chopped cooked chicken (canned chopped chicken can be used if you wish; just drain the liquid)
  • 1/3 cup of finely chopped fresh celery
  • ½ teaspoon lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon dried basil
  • ¼ teaspoon onion salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/8 teaspoon thyme
  • 1/8 teaspoon dill weed
  • Two 8 ounce packages of Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 ½ teaspoons of sesame seeds or poppy seeds (use more if you wish)

Healthy Substitutions for Ingredients

If you’re looking to decrease the calories in these party food snacks, there are some healthy alternatives for some of the ingredients. You can try using reduced fat cream cheese and crescent rolls. You can also use egg whites or an egg substitute.

Preparation

  1. In large bowl, combine softened cream cheese, lemon juice, basil, onion salt, oregano, thyme and dill weed. Mix until well blended.
  2. Use a food processor to finely chop the chicken and celery. The Bullet food processor is ideal for this job.
  3. Add the chicken and celery to the cream cheese mixture and mix until well blended.
  4. On wax paper, lay out crescent roll dough to make 8 rectangles. Be sure to press the perforations together to seal them up.
  5. Spread the chicken/cream cheese mixture lengthwise onto the rectangles.
  6. Leave ½ inch of dough along the length of one side of the rectangles.
  7. Roll the dough over the mixture so the seam is side down. It should look like a tube.
  8. Cut the tube into bite size pieces.
  9. Brush the pieces with beaten egg.
  10. Sprinkle sesame seeds or poppy seeds on top.

Baking

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Grease or spray non-stick oil on large cookie sheet.
  3. Place the bite size pieces on the large cookie sheet.
  4. Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until the pieces are golden brown.

Almost Ready To Party

  • Remove from oven and let cool.
  • Arrange pieces on large plate.
  • Enjoy the food and the compliments!
