Maple syrup can be used on sweet potatoes, pancakes, oatmeal, hot chocolate, ham, gingerbread cookies, candy, barbecue sauce, and baked butter squash.

Maple syrup contains mostly water and it is made by the evaporation of maple sap from maple trees. Northeastern North America is the most common location for maple syrup production. Some of the biggest United States maple syrup production locations are Vermont, Maine, New York, Wisconsin, and Ohio.

Pure maple syrup has vitamins and minerals. It has small amounts of vitamin B along with calcium and potassium. Maple-flavored syrup is less costly than pure maple syrup so it can be used on ready made products such as hot chocolate or frozen pancakes. Meanwhile, the pure maple syrup can be used for a dishes such as baked butter squash or gingerbread cookies.

Pure maple syrup is very sweet so a small amount is needed for most recipes. A recipe may ask for pure maple syrup or regular maple syrup. Regular maple sugar is sweeter than sugar and provides great flavor for recipes with sweet potatoes, pancakes, oatmeal, hot chocolate, ham, gingerbread cookies, candy, barbecue sauce, and baked butter squash.

Storing Maple SyrupMaple syrup should be stored in a cool place. For instance, the refrigerator is the most common place for storage. This helps prevent the maple syrup from spoiling. Otherwise, maple syrup can be frozen until an individual is ready to use it for baking bread or pouring into a beverage such as hot chocolate.
