This recipe for scalloped potatoes creates an amazing dinner that can be served to even the hungriest of families. Not to mention, it is beautiful and fancy enough to serve at a formal family dinner or pot luck. It is easy to make and requires only a few simple ingredients.

Jase’s Favorite Scalloped Potatoes with Ham comes out of the oven bubbling with deliciousness and blended flavors. It is a recipe that is perfect for beginning home cooks or seasoned chefs that want to make their guest’s stomachs smile in satisfaction.

Jase’s Favorite Scalloped Potatoes with Ham

Serves: 6-8 adults

Difficulty: Easy

Prep Time: 45 minutes

Cook Time: 45 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 3 pounds russet potatoes
  • 1 pound cubed cooked ham
  • 1 large can cream of mushroom soup *or cream of chicken*
  • 2 cups of crushed plain potato chips
  • 3 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves minced fresh garlic
  • Salt
  • Black pepper

Execution:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F

  1. Peel potatoes and place into boiling water; cook until the potatoes are 3/4 of the way softened. The center core of the potatoes should be firm while the outside is softened.
  2. Use a spatula to spread half of the can of cream of mushroom or chicken soup on the bottom of a large casserole dish. Evenly spread the minced garlic on top of the soup; lightly salt and pepper.
  3. Cut the potatoes into 1/2 inch thick slices and layer them directly on top of the layer of cream of mushroom or chicken soup. The potatoes should overlap each other no more than three times. The excess potatoes should be discarded to ensure proper penetration of the cheese, soup and ham flavors into the potato layer.
  4. Evenly distribute the cubed ham on top of the potatoes and cover with remaining soup.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine cheeses and gently mix with washed bare hands.
  6. Evenly cover the top of the contents of the casserole dish with the cheese mixture.
  7. Top the entire dish with the crushed potato chips and a moderate amount of salt and pepper.
  8. Place into preheated oven and cook for 45 minutes; the cheese should be entirely melted and the potato chips should be lightly browned.
  9. Allow the casserole dish to sit for 10 minutes before serving.

The scalloped potatoes will emerge from the oven bubbling with the tantalizing scent of melted cheeses and savory ham. It is complemented well with any type of vegetable, especially broccoli. One may consider adding 1 cup of chopped broccoli to the recipe to transform it into a healthy well-rounded meal.
